Philadelphia residents will have the option of receiving free adult education classes starting next month. They can sign up now for instruction on reading, writing, math, basic computer classes, high school equivalency preparation, and English for speakers of other languages.
The City of Philadelphia has partnered with several community-based providers to provide the classes through a centralized enrollment and referral process. The City’s education program and career readiness classes help residents get the skills they need for work and life. Classes are free, and online options are available during COVID-19.

In order to enroll, residents should visit phila.gov/adult-education to find the campus closest to them, and call to speak with a learning coach who will help solicitors enroll in the right class according to their schedule, goals, and skill level.
Vital literacy and digital skills
Deputy Mayor Cynthia Figueroa expressed her enthusiasm with the educational initiative. “We are glad to relaunch adult education services for residents. The pandemic has radically changed how we work and how we access information. Literacy and digital skills are more vital now than ever so residents can qualify for quality jobs. ”
“Math, language, and computer skills benefit every resident, household, and community. Learning is a lifelong venture, and we encourage Philadelphians to pursue their educational goals in the coming new year,” Figueroa added.
Beginning this year, the City’s Office of Children and Families now oversees City-led adult education services and partnerships. More information and updates are available at phila.gov/adult-education.
