After days of confusion for customers, Turbo Tax said stimulus payments for its customers “are on their way,” according to an email sent overnight by the tax preparer.
The payments will be deposited into the same bank account that customers received their 2019 tax refunds and many of them will be available Friday, according to TurboTax, though that will vary by bank.
“We are happy to share that stimulus payments for those impacted by an IRS error will begin to be deposited starting January 8th,” said Greg Johnson, Executive Vice President and GM at Turbo Tax. “We expect most payments to be available that day, but your bank could take a few business days to process.”
Turbo Tax is not the only tax preparation company that had issues with stimulus payments reaching its customers directly from the IRS. H&R Block had received its customers second stimulus payments and began paying them out earlier this week via direct deposit and the company’s Emerald Cards.

The IRS explained that mistakes happened due to the speed at which it was required to send out the second round of stimulus payments.
TurboTax says the issue has been fixed. A spokeswoman said the fix also applies to customers who received the “Payment Status #2 – Not Available” message while using the IRS Get My Payment tool.
An error caused a delay
“We have been working tirelessly with the Treasury and IRS to get stimulus payments to our customers,” said TurboTax in an update. “We know how important these funds are for so many Americans, and we regret that an IRS error caused a delay.”
Many H&R Block customers who faced a similar issue received their payments earlier this week.
The status change may not be reflected in the Get My Payment tool right away, the company noted. Customers should check their bank accounts for the payments.
