Is politics in America has become a lucrative business? From the White House to the smallest municipality outside interest do influence our government.
“Politics is the business of producing correct policies…,” Aristotle and Plato. Some people say that politics is really largely about fund raising and making money. Can it be that our elected politicians are not working for us and by selling power and influence they do profit handsomely? Can it be a sort of legalized bribery? Politics have a major impact on our lives. The unions and major companies see the message clearly: Failing to donate could hurt your company. Sounds like extortion.
I heard, while working for the Judicial System, this closing argument in front of a jury: “Extortion is like the squeegee man who approaches your car at a stop light with a washcloth and a squeegee, and begins wiping the windshield expecting payment. The threats are unstated, but, would he ruin your paint, smash your windshield?”
To remedy the high cost of living we get from our elected officials complex laws and regulations that are taking our freedoms, our incomes and killing our way of living.
Apparently there is no money to be made by fixing problems. Maybe creating confusion, rehashing fights and blocking freedom is what creates income for our politicians. Just like in wrestling, no matter who wins the match, everyone gets paid.
The way, in which the laws are written, politicians are able to employ extortions techniques that would send the rest of us to jail. Lawmakers have written the laws in such a way that they can sell their votes legally. The defender of the squeegee man argued: he was just trying to make a living; for the politician he argued: that it just politics.
