Florida Republican senator, Marco Rubio predicted the “worst” for Nicolás Maduro, and “prison” for the chavist leader, Diosdado Cabello. In spite of the announcement, he insisted on the United States offer to exonerate from sanctions the high commands that do not recognize the “illegitimate” authority of both.
The Northamerican politician said that “the future of democracy in Venezuela is largely in hands of 6 men” and promised that there will be no “military purge” for those who support Juan Guaidó , recognized by the United States and half a hundred countries as interim president.
Guaidó, president of the Parlament and elected in 2015, was proclaimed on January 23. He promised to organize new elections, after considering that Maduro was re-elected in fraudulent elections.
Rubio said that the process which began in Venezuela three weeks ago “is irreversible” and that Maduro “has no escape”.
“From now on, it only gets worse for Maduro,” he said at a forum organized by the Heritage Foundation and the International Republican Institute.
He added that for Cabello, president of the Constituent Assembly that governs with absolute powers, “there is no future, just in prison.” Although he said that others like him, will not be able to “receive any kind of amnesty from the United States on federal charges,” he clarified that concessions could be made in order to “avoid a bloodshed.”
“At the military level and elsewhere there is an opportunity for some of them to clean up a bit, depending on what they had done,” he said, although he warned that this ” opportunity window does not exist forever.”
On Twitter, Rubio promised “immunity” to the Venezuelan Defense Minister, General Vladimir Padrino, Admiral Remigio Ceballos, Major General Jesús Rafael Suárez Chourio, Admiral GiuseppeAlessandrello Cimadevilla , Major General Edgar Valentín Cruz Arteaga and Major General Antonio Benavides Torres, “if they help restore democracy”.
