Philadelphia police are reinforcing security at critical government buildings due to reports from Washington D.C. about threats against the U.S. Capitol complex. Philadelphia police say that while there are no specific threats in the area, they are increasing security “out of an abundance of caution.”
As reported by CBS Philly the heightened security measures in the city have been deployed due to the discovery of a possible plot to breach the U.S. Capitol on Thursday.
Pennsylvania Democratic Congressman Dwight Evans said he trusts the communication between state security forces to keep the stability of institutions. “I feel really assured that between the Capitol Police and the National Guard, that they are providing the necessary security.”
CBS3 spoke to Evans from his office in the Capitol building. He says he feels safe, despite new intelligence released by Capitol Police indicating another breach may be coming tomorrow.
“The Capitol Police have assured us that they are paying attention, doing their due diligence to all aspects of security around the Capitol,” Evans said.
Intelligence reports said that a militia group planned the attack for March 4, the day QAnon supporters expect thousands will come to Washington, D.C. to remove Democrats from office and start Donald Trump´s second term.
Violent extremists threats
The reason why March 4 was chosen is because that was when presidents were inaugurated up until 1933, when it was moved to Jan. 4.
The BBC reported that an intelligence bulletin issued by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security says. “As of late February, an unidentified group of militia violent extremists discussed plans to take control of the US Capitol and remove Democratic lawmakers on or about 4 March and discussed aspirational plans to persuade thousands to travel to Washington DC to participate.”

The bulletin added that “due to the sensitive nature of this information, we cannot provide additional details at this time.”
The new threats come nearly two months after the Capitol was breached while Congress was certifying President Joe Biden’s election victory.
