Rudy Giuliani’s future is uncertain. Important men and women who have served Donald Trump have ended up with career ending situations, fired from the White House, or in prison for lying to the FBI. Perhaps Giuliani thought he could do better, and he would be able to enjoy visits to Mar-a-Lago, golf outings at Trump’s golf resorts, and many other privileges by becoming Trump’s lawyer. To that end, the former New York mayor has put himself in a position of subservience to Trump. He has argued about the meaning and importance of the Trump Tower meeting, defended Michael Cohen’s payments to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal among other things. After the controversial visit to Ukraine, Giuliani announced that he went to Ukraine on behalf of the State Department and representing Trump before Volodymyr Zelensky, the new president.
But what Giuliani should be looking into is the fate of Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer. Cohen thought he would benefit from his connection to Trump until he didn’t. With that in mind, we have to wonder how Mitch McConnell, and others who are still serving Trump will fare when Trump is gone. During his press conference in New York, the first after the call for impeachment, Trump lied about Hunter and Joe Biden attempting to deflect the problem he has now because of the call to Zelensky. The transcript of that call moved Nancy Pelosi to start the impeachment process. After exaggerating his accomplishments, Trump attacked the press and the Democrats, saying that he is “the one man in the world” who can handle all the attacks he has suffered by the Democrats and the media. But that strength will be tested because he is facing impeachment, and Pelosi is a determined foe that neither Trump nor Giuliani can stop.
