Kellyanne Conway casually dropped a bombshell in interview with Chris Cuomo on CNN. She said that Robert Mueller may never file a final report on the Russia investigation. For many months the public has wondered about the final outcome of the investigation that started onMay 17, 2017, and the has been under the supervision of the Justice Department. Along the way there have been a number of indictments and some people close to the president like aide Michael Flynn, his lawyer Michael Cohen, 2016 Campaign Manager Paul Manafort ended up in legal trouble.
Conway said that the public may never see a report even if Mueller submits one. She argued that the American public doesn’t want to see a report, something absolutely false. And it is not up to Mueller. He must report it to the Attorney General, who is required to send a summary to Congress. From Day One of the Trump administration we have wondered if this president is under the control of Vladimir Putin. At several points, during press conferences, television interviews, and most notably at the Helsinki Summit, Trump seemed to be siding with the Russian leader. There are justified suspicions that Putin has been controlling Trump by means of blackmail, and that the Russian has proof that he can use against Trump. As a former KGB agent it would not be surprising the Putin would be using well-known tricks used by the Russians during the Cold War. On the other hand, Trump has never given the public reason to believe that he is free of Putin’s influence–quite the contrary, as many of his actions have tended to benefit Putin and hurt our country. By withdrawing this country from the Paris climate accords, the Trans Pacific Agreements, and showing no support for NATO, Trump has helped the Russian agenda. Equally disturbing has been his support for Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman the intellectual author the assassination of Saudi journalist Jamal Kashoggi.
Donald Trump has isolated our nation refusing to act in concert to solve the climate crisis, or face the threats to democracy around the world. He finds himself increasingly isolated, unwilling to accept the advise of his own intelligence agencies, lying about the threat of caravans from the south, and using an executive order to declare a nonexisting emergency. He has been aided and abetted by a supine Republican Party for the first two years of his administration. He has governed from the pulpit of Twitter to undermine the very institutions that would keep us informed and weakened a Justice system that would prosecute him for his crimes. The media has become “the enemy of the people,” while his minions help him to shape an alternate reality. But all this is coming to an end, and at this point it doesn’t matter if Trump is only Mueller’s “unindicted co-conspirator. The stench of corruption and collusion permeates the air, and he cannot put that genie back in the lamp. Whatever is in the Mueller Report we have the right to know.
