An N.J. establishment recalls approximately 120,872 pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O103, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced on April 25.
Lakeside Refrigerated Services, a Swedesboro-based company, is responsible for the ground beef products recalled.
They were produced from February 1, 2022, through April 8, 2022. The whole list of beef items that are being recalled, as well as their product codes, can be viewed here, while yhe labels for the ground beef items are here.
Inside the USDA mark of inspection, the recalled products include the establishment number “EST. 46841.” These products were sent to retail outlets across the country.

The problem was discovered during routine FSIS testing of imported products. There are no confirmed reports of illness or adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products.
Many clinical laboratories do not test for non-O157 Shiga toxin-producingE. coli (STEC) such as O103 because it is harder to identify than STEC O157:H7. People can become ill from STECs for 2–8 days (an average of 3–4 days) after consuming the organism.
STEC O103 infection causes diarrhea (frequently bloody) and vomiting in the majority of patients. Some illnesses are more severe and last longer, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is concerned that some ground beef products may already be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers.
These products should not be consumed by customers who have purchased them and should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased, FSIS says.
It’s not the first time that Lakeside Refrigerated Services has to withdraw ground meet suspicious of being contaminated with some kind of E. coli. In June, 2020, the company recalled beef products due to a possible E. coli O157:H7 contamination.
