It has been disturbing to hear the president’s denial of the Russian hacking and interference in the 2016 election. And it is disturbing because our intelligence services, knowledgeable, experienced diplomats, historians and journalists who have access to many source agree that it happened and that it is still going on. It is disturbing and embarrassing for the nation to our leader embrace Vladimir Putin and accept his word over the word of our intelligence. And all of this is more vexing because we know that there is enough evidence of this president’s collaboration and communication with the Russians. Let’s remember the mockery in front of the world, telling Putin to stop interfering. Let’s remember his enjoyment of wiki-leaks and his request for more information. Let’s remember that he fired FBI Director Jim Comey because he was investigating the Russians and gathering evidence that could implicate Trump. Let’s remember that he met with the Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to brag about getting rid of Comey and the investigation. And he defended the meeting later alleging that he has “an absolute right,” to “share” intelligence with Russia.
Trump collaboration with Putin is linked to his wish to build a tower in Moscow. He has distanced us from NATO creating tension with the European nations while befriending Kim Jong un, Putin and other dictators. Such actions clearly promote Putin’s agenda. The Democratic Party is divided now between those who want quick action and those, like Nancy Pelosi who would prefer to beat Trump in the next election. Four more years of Trump could result from inaction. Mueller was criticized for lacking energy but the power of his report is there and we heard him say it: Trump lied and the report showed enough evidence to impeach.
