To start celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month, Hispanic Media and El Sol Latino Newspaper have organized a Facebook Live on Tuesday, September 15, to address the issue of LatinX and its linguistic meaning that seeks to overturn the binary definition of the nouns “Latino” and “Latin”.
To explore the topic, there will be Lissy G, who, with a Bachelor Degree in Communications and a Master’s degree in Education from Temple University, and being a Puerto Ricans Latina daughter, raised by an African American, has a rich knowledge of African American and Latino culture.
Lissy G, LatinX digital host for El Sol Latino, will have as a special guest Eugene Martinez, also with Latin roots, influencer and head concierge at Ritz-Carlton in Philadelphia. Both will speak about the cultural implications of LatinX identity in the Hispanic community.
Participants will discuss LatinX, not only as a term of inclusive language, but also as a word accepted and promoted among the LGBTQ community as a gender-free identifier.
The new Facebook Live meeting, as set in the Hispanic Heritage Month, will be Tuesday, September 15 at 5:00 pm.
Participants in this conversation have expressed their deep identification with their Latino roots fed by their Caribbean heritage and consider the adoption of LatinX as an appropriate definition for their identity.
