With strong winds and potentially severe thunderstorms expected in central Pennsylvania, the National Weather Service at State College issued a tornado watch.
A tornado watch is not a warning. It means that weather conditions are favorable for the development of a severe thunderstorm that can produce a tornado. If such a storm does develop, a tornado warning would be issued for the area.
The watch is in effect until 6 p.m. Monday for much of central and eastern Pennsylvania, including Dauphin, Cumberland, Lancaster, York, Lebanon and Perry counties.
With a wind advisory in effect until 8 p.m., the conditions could become conducive to tornadoes, meteorologists say.
The most severe weather is moving across the state now, and is expected to hit the Harrisburg area in the early afternoon.
Winds of 21 to 23 mph and gusts up to 50 mph are expected, along with heavy rains and thunderstorms.
