Rudy Giuliani who had been omnipresent on our television screens, letting everybody know that he had Trump’s ear is now looking to hide behind his own lawyer. There is something not quite right when your lawyer needs a lawyer. Donald Trump has spent a lifetime in litigation. Now he is going to have a lot of time to engage in his favorite activity, but this time he is facing a determined opponent, Congress. Supposedly he preferred to sue or be sued instead of paying people who did work for him. He has done enough to provoke the Democrats who had been calling for impeachment proceedings to begin a long time ago. It is one more sign that this White House is under siege, with a deluge of subpoenas coming from the House, a report from the Inspector General, and Trump now insisting that this investigation is a “coup.”
But it is because of his actions that he find himself and his administration under a cloud. The revelations by a whistleblower that Trump asked the President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine to look into Hunter Biden and Joe Biden as a quid pro quo, motivated Nancy Pelosi to start an impeachment inquiry. Each day brings new facts to this slowly evolving scandal. Trump has already admitted that he spoke to Zelensky, because he sees nothing wrong with what he has done in asking Zelensky for a favor or in sending Giuliani, Mike Pompeo and Attorney General William Barr around the world to ask leaders in other countries to cooperate in his investigation of the 2016 election. During the Watergate investigation Nixon’s closes aides were forced to resign and the GOP leadership saw the need to ask him to resign when all seemed lost. Where are those leaders now?
