Once again, the possibility that Pennsylvania’s municipal police may use radar guns to control vehicles speed in the state, depends on local legislators.
It is not the first time that they try to implement this “initiative”, based on technology from the end of World War II, in the second state of the Union.
In almost every corner of the United States, police agencies are allowed to use radar guns to help them determine whether a driver is speeding illegally
The Senate passed a law allowing municipal police to use radar for speed control. Senate Bill 607, sponsored by Senator Mario Scavello, will now go to the House of Representatives..
“All states but Pennsylvania permit their local police to use radar for monitoring traffic speed. In Pennsylvania, only the State Police are currently authorized to use radar,” Scavello said. “It makes no sense that the state allows municipalities to use red light cameras to curtail unsafe driving, but does not allow the use of this World War II era technology.”
