Hispanic Media and El Sol Latino Newspaper recognized three outstanding figures in Philadelphia’s public life: Councilwoman Quetcy Lozada, State Representative Danilo Burgos, and the Chair of the City Commissioners, Omar Sabir, as part of the week of the Annual Dinner of The Pennsylvania Society.
The event, titled “Honoring Excellence: People of the Year 2025” and held at the prestigious Waldorf Astoria in New York, highlighted the leadership, commitment, and public service of these three distinguished leaders, celebrated for their ongoing work alongside the community.

Quetcy Lozada, Councilwoman for Philadelphia’s 7th District, was honored for her tireless efforts to strengthen the communities where she was born and has built her entire career. Her leadership has made her one of the most influential Latina voices in the city.

Danilo Burgos, Pennsylvania State Representative and the first Dominican elected to the state’s General Assembly, was recognized for his strong advocacy of family values, education, and economic development, as well as for his historic impact on Latino representation.

Omar Sabir, Chair of the City Commissioners, was also honored for his work to increase voter participation and promote civic engagement. A lifelong Philadelphian, he has dedicated his career to ensuring that all communities are informed and actively involved in the democratic process.
The event reaffirmed the value of Latino leadership and celebrated those who, from different arenas, are shaping the future of Pennsylvania. Hispanic Media and El Sol Latino Newspaper, always committed to highlighting community leaders, continue to strengthen their role as essential platforms that elevate Latino contributions to the development of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the nation. The ceremony was supported by PECO, HACE, and Congreso—key organizations in community empowerment.

Ricardo Hurtado, President and CEO of Hispanic Media, praised the significant contributions of the three honorees and emphasized that their leadership represents the strongest example of the Latino commitment to public service and community advancement.
The evening also brought together prominent members of the Latino community and strategic partners, including Vanessa Caracoza, President of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting; Mayra Hernández Bergman, Founder & CEO of Crisis+ Strategies; Jannette Diaz, President and CEO of Congreso de Latinos Unidos; and Julia A. Rivera, Chief External Affairs Officer of the same organization.

Also in attendance were José Aguirre, Senior Manager of Government & External Affairs at PECO; Reverend Bonnie Camarda, Vice President and Divisional Director of Partnerships for The Salvation Army in Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware; Harianned Chaurel, member of Gente de Venezuela; and singer Alex Moreno.
The presence of these individuals enriched an evening dedicated to honoring excellence and Latino leadership in the public and community spheres, in the context of the important week of the Annual Dinner of The Pennsylvania Society.
