Another tragedy where a child is the fatal victim of a gun afflicts the city of Philadelphia. This time a 9-year-old boy was shot and killed in Philadelphia’s Germantown neighborhood Tuesday night.
The child was shot in the face while he was inside a home on the 5900 block of North 20th Street. The incident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. He was found in the back bedroom of the home.
One neighbor described hearing a loud pop and screams from the people inside the house.
The reports show that there were family members, including an adult, inside the home.
The victim was taken to the Albert Einstein Medical Center where later he was pronounced dead.
According to Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw this may be a case of negligence. “There’s evidence to believe that there might be some negligence involved,” said Outlaw.
“This sort of thing has a very profound, deep impact on everyone”, she said while talking to reporters.
As part of the investigation, police officials are currently speaking with the people who was inside the home at the time of the shooting.
Police have not yet revealed what led to the shooting, and a weapon has not been recovered nor an arrest made.
