From the day he announced that he was running for president we understood that Donald Trump didn’t like Hispanics. And since that time we have learned he despises all people of color and the countries of their birth. His government has singled out Mexicans and immigrants from Central America who organized a caravan in Honduras that grew as it advanced towards the U.S. border. Trump used that event to claim that they were organizing an invasion and sent troops to the border to repel them.
Now, Citizenship and Immigration Director Ken Cuccinelli says that the new regulations “encourage self-reliance and self-sufficiency” for those seeking to come to or say in the United States. He reiterated those statements in a television interview asserting that the new law allows the government to turn down green card and visa applicants if they have “low incomes,’ or “little education.” That is a confirmation of the racist policies of the Trump government aligning with Trump’s expressed wish to bring in more Norwegians to this country. The point was repeated by Trump who says that he is not happy with immigrants who come to this country and immediately apply for welfare. But the vast majority of immigrants are not eligible to apply for welfare. That statement ignores the fact that most of those who apply for welfare are white poor people.
The rule also penalizes hard working immigrants who might need a small amount of government assistance in order to start out. All of the above also fits with his most recent attacks on black leaders and the poor urban centers governed by Democrats. No poor people yearning for freedom need to apply to come to the U.S. And this is how Trump is changing the words at the feet of the Statue of Liberty.
