Another peaceful demonstration to reaffirm the spirit of coexistence and anti-racism that tries to prevail in the city took place on Tuesday. A road mural that reads “end racism now” was painted in Philadelphia’s Fishtown neighborhood.

The mural also included names of African-American people who were killed unjustly, including George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery among others.

You can read: The National Guard is leaving Philadelphia

This happens a week after a group of armed white men claimed they were out to protect police and the neighborhood. The armed people gathered in Fishtown neighborhood while carrying bats, golf clubs, and other improvised weapons.

Pastor John T. Brice from St. James United Methodist Church organized the event, which took place outside the 26th Police District building on Girard Avenue in Fishtown.

While numerous people helped paint the mural Tuesday night, Streets Department crews were out a short while later to remove it. The painting covered turn-only lanes on Girard Avenue, police said, so leaving it in place could lead to adverse traffic impacts.

The painting was still in place Tuesday night, however.

Organizers said Wednesday morning that the Streets Department has issued a permit and the mural will stay until it washes or wears away.
