On Monday, as Isaias makes its way northward., tropical storm warnings were issued for coastal counties in New Jersey and Delaware. Later in the morning, warnings were issued in inland counties in New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for Philadelphia along with Montgomery, Bucks, Chester and Delaware counties; southern New Jersey including Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Mercer and Salem counties; and Delaware including New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties through Tuesday evening.

According to fox29.co weather forecast, Isaias was forecast to become a hurricane Monday as it neared landfall in the Carolinas after bands of heavy rain from the tropical storm lashed Florida’s east coast.

The warning means that tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. Forecasters say winds could reach 45 to 55 mph with gusts to 75 mph from Tuesday morning into Tuesday evening.

The storm could bring as many as 4″-6″ of rain, prompting flash flood watches for most of the area. It is also expected that the speed of these winds could bring down trees and power lines.

You can read: Isaias could bring heavy rain to the Philadelphia region next week

A storm surge could cause problems until Wednesday morning mainly along the shoreline and in low-lying areas.

A flash flood watch is in effect tonight and tomorrow across the entire region because of heavy tropical rains totaling 2-4″.

Isaias is whipping up the waves and there are strong rip currents.

Moderate beach erosion is expected.

Isaias, the second hurricane to form in the Atlantic for the 2020 season, has become a Category 1 hurricane overnight Thursday. The storm could potentially begin to shift north and east and hit the Philadelphia region early next week.

At this time, it looks like the center of the storm will be tracking very close to the coast of New Jersey, bringing with it tropical rainfall by Tuesday of next week. Heavy rain, strong winds and unsettled beaches are certainly not out of the question for the Philadelphia region starting Monday night through early Wednesday morning. The exact track is still to be determined.

Meanwhile, Isaias will continue to dump loads of rain and strong winds over the southern Bahamas. Further intensification is expected through the weekend as the storm makes its closest approach to Florida. Impacts across Florida are expected as early as Saturday morning.

Isaias could briefly reach category 2 status sometime this weekend.

The storm will likely move northwest through the weekend and skirt the Florida coast. The cone of concern now includes Florida and the Carolinas in its potential landfall.
