]]> The Hispanic Heritage Month Gala, held for the fourth consecutive year by the Hispanic Media publishing group, was celebrated in an intimate atmosphere, but with the warmth of the Latino community.

The event recognized the work of five outstanding figures representing the Hispanic community and was held under the Fashion Mask modality to guarantee the safety of the attendees. The Tierra Colombiana restaurant served as the stage for the remarkable ceremony.

The introductory words were delivered by Lissy G who reminded the audience of the importance of maintaining safe conditions during the reception: use of masks and social distance. She extended her thanks to Hispanic Media, El Sol Latino, the sponsors, Telemundo and Prospanica.

Ricardo Hurtado.

“We are experiencing strange signs in today’s world,” with these words Ricardo Hurtado, CEO of Hispanic Media and main architect of the award, began his speech. He welcomed the ceremony which circumstances forced to be held in an atmosphere of intimacy and which aroused mixed feelings. Hurtado expressed that on the one hand, there is a deep gratitude for continuing to live and work but also remains the memory of those who left due to the impact of the pandemic.

Hurtado, used his intervention to refer to the difficult circumstances conjured up by the current complex reality “It is a moment of challenges that we are living”. He pointed out as examples, the protests of the “Black Lives Matter” movement, the looting and the alarming increase in crime. This is a worrying social scenario that is happening not only in Philadelphia, but also in the main cities of the country.

However, in his opinion, with the right attitude we will all come out of this crisis stronger. Hurtado assured that the Hispanic Media team will continue to work tirelessly for the interests of the Hispanic community and that part of that work is to promote and highlight the work of personalities and leaders of the Latino community who have done an outstanding work within society.

Sylvie Gallier Howard

Sylvie Gallier Howard.

Director of Commerce at City of Philadelphia Sylvie Gallier Howard, said the last seven months have been a hard work for her management due to the enormous challenge posed by the pandemic. But instead of listing the details of her work, she decided to focus her intervention by sharing principles that reflect her personal values.

Among them are living life with intensity, loving family, friends and work. Challenge oneself without fear of failure. Enjoy the pleasures of life. Marvel at nature. Cultivate confidence, laughter and make friendships with different types of people.

Gallier paid special attention to the last principle of her personal guidance, which she said considers of great relevance for today’s difficult times. “Overcome the blows of life. Find the courage. Have faith. Time heals the wounds.”

Ismael Cala.

The next winner was the famous coach, influencer, entrepreneur and media personality of Cuban origin, Ismael Cala, who unfortunately could not attend the event but who was present through a video that he shared with the audience.

The prolific journalist thanked the award and highlighted that the recognition commits him even more as a “communicator, human being and Latino” to serve the interests of the Hispanic community.

José Aguirre

José Aguirre.

Next on the stage came Philadelphia’s award-winning Governmental Affairs Manager-Philadelphia for PECO, José Aguirre. The successful Nicaraguan-born manager shared his personal vision of the responsibilities that include being the leader of a corporation or business.

He underlined the ability to learn from the members his/her responsibility and not to insist that his/her is the only way to perform the tasks. “The leader asks for help when he/she needs it and doesn’t blame others when plans don’t work out,” Aguirre said.

Jennifer Gómez Hardy

Jennifer Gómez Hardy.

The next recognized personality was Jennifer Gómez Hardy, President of the Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania. Gómez Hardy pointed out upon receiving the award that Latin X lawyers represent only 4% of the legal profession in the United States and that of the 75,000 active lawyers in the Commonwealth, only a little more than a thousand are Latinos. This situation is “unacceptable” in her opinion.

She also called for voting and for candidates to address the most urgent issues affecting the Latino community.

María del Pilar Morales

María del Pilar Morales.

The award ceremony closed with recognition of the famous Latina influencer and host on La Mega 105.7, María del Pilar Morales. The journalist expressed that her task is not really a job, but a daily activity that she enjoys to the fullest. “I have been in the media for 31 years and I have to enjoy it,” she said with satisfaction and pride.

Morales confessed that the beginning of the pandemic generated the possibility of closing the radio station. But she strongly opposed to such measure because during this difficult situation “people need us more than ever and I need them.” Three months later the station’s rating had tripled.

The Puerto Rican radio host also received the Lifestyle Achievement Award in recognition of her three decades of work and service to the Latino community.

An honor

Lina Gómez.

Lina Gómez, Vice President of Operations for Hispanic Media, was in charge of the closing remarks of the ceremony. She thanked the guests for attending the event and reaffirmed the presence of Hispanic Media in the market during its 27 years of successful history.

Gómez emphasized the social projection of the medium. “It has been an honor for us to support our community during this pandemic, educating, promoting and communicating in a door-to-door work”.

Among the participants were State Representative Danilo Burgos and Councilmember David Oh, who was in charge of delivering additional recognitions granted by the Philadelphia Council to the personalities honored at the event.

The gala that honored the important Hispanic heritage culminated with an invitation for attendees to enjoy an exquisite dinner that served as a perfect ending to an evening that inspired hope and optimism in Philadelphia’s Latino community.

]]> Bajo un ambiente de intimidad, pero provisto del calor afectivo propio de la comunidad latina, se llevó a cabo la Hispanic Heritage Month Gala que por cuarto año consecutivo celebró el grupo editorial Hispanic Media.

El evento premió la trayectoria de cinco destacadas figuras representativas de la comunidad hispana y se realizó bajo la modalidad Fashion Mask para garantizar la seguridad de los asistentes. El restaurante Tierra Colombiana sirvió de escenario para la notable ceremonia.

Las palabras introductorias estuvieron a cargo de Lissy G quien recordó a la audiencia la importancia de mantener las condiciones de seguridad durante la recepción: uso de mascarillas y distancia social. Expresó agradecimientos a Hispanic Media, El Sol Latino, a los patrocinadores, Telemundo y Prospanica.

Ricardo Hurtado.

“Estamos viviendo signos extraños en el mundo actual”, con estas palabras inició su intervención Ricardo Hurtado, CEO de Hispanic Media y artífice principal de la premiación. Dio la bienvenida a la ceremonia que las circunstancias obligaron a realizarla en una atmósfera de intimidad y que despertó sentimientos mezclados. Hurtado expresó que por una parte hay un profundo agradecimiento por continuar vivos y trabajando, pero también permanece la memoria de los que partieron debido al impacto de la pandemia.

Hurtado aprovechó su intervención para referirse a las difíciles circunstancias conjuradas por la compleja realidad actual. “Es un momento de desafíos el que estamos viviendo”. Señaló como ejemplos, las protestas del movimiento “Black Lives Matter”, los saqueos y el alarmante aumento del crimen. Un escenario social preocupante que no sólo se manifiesta en Filadelfia, sino también en las principales ciudades del país.

No obstante, en su opinión, con la actitud adecuada todos saldremos fortalecidos de esta crisis. Hurtado aseguró que el equipo de Hispanic Media continuará trabajando incansablemente por los intereses de la comunidad hispana y que parte de ese trabajo es promover y resaltar la labor de personalidades y líderes de la comunidad latina que han realizado una labor ejemplar dentro de la sociedad.

Sylvie Gallier Howard.

Sylvie Gallier Howard, directora de Comercio de la ciudad de Filadelfia, expresó que los últimos siete meses han representado un arduo trabajo de su gestión frente al enorme desafío que ha planteado la pandemia. Pero en lugar de enumerar los detalles de su labor decidió enfocar su intervención compartiendo principios que reflejan sus valores personales.

Entre ellos se encuentran vivir la vida con intensidad, amar a la familia, los amigos y el trabajo. Proponerse desafíos sin temor al fracaso. Disfrutar los placeres de la vida. Maravillarse por la naturaleza. Cultivar la confianza, la risa y hacer amistades con diferentes tipos de personas.

Gallier le dedicó especial atención al último principio de su guía personal que según sus palabras resulta de gran relevancia para los difíciles tiempos actuales. “Supera los golpes de la vida. Encuentra el valor. Ten fe. El tiempo cura”.

Ismael Cala

Ismael Cala.

El siguiente galardonado fue el célebre, coach, influencer, empresario y personalidad de los medios de comunicación de origen cubano, Ismael Cala quien desafortunadamente no pudo asistir al evento pero que de igual manera estuvo presente mediante un vídeo que compartió con el público asistente.

El prolífico periodista, agradeció el galardón otorgado y resaltó que el reconocimiento lo compromete aún más como “comunicador, ser humano y latino” para servir a los intereses de la comunidad hispana.

José Aguirre

José Aguirre.

A continuación subió al estrado, el premiado Gerente de Asuntos Gubernamentales y Externos de Filadelfia para PECO, José Aguirre. El exitoso gerente de origen nicaragüense, compartió su visión personal de las responsabilidades que incluyen ser el líder de una corporación o empresa.

Subrayó entre ellas la capacidad de aprender de los miembros que se encuentran bajo su responsabilidad y de no insistir en que la suya es la única manera de realizar las tareas. “El líder solicita ayuda cuando la necesita y no culpa a los demás cuando los planes no resultan”, afirmó Aguirre.

La siguiente personalidad reconocida fue Jennifer Gómez Hardy, presidenta y miembro de la Junta de la Asociación de Abogados Hispanos (HBA) de Pennsylvania. Gómez Hardy puntualizó al recibir el merecido galardón, que los abogados Latin X representan solo el 4% de los juristas de los Estados Unidos y que de los 75.000 abogados activos en la Commonwealth, solo un poco más de mil de ellos son latinos. Situación “inaceptable”, en su opinión.

Igualmente hizo un llamado a votar y a exigir a los candidatos a atender los asuntos más urgentes que afectan a la comunidad latina.

La entrega de premios cerró con el reconocimiento a la famosa influencer latina y locutora en La Mega 105.7, María del Pilar Morales. La comunicadora manifestó emocionada que su labor en realidad no constituye un trabajo, sino una actividad diaria que disfruta al máximo. “He estado en los medios por 31 años y tengo que gozarlo”, afirmó con satisfacción y orgullo.

Morales confesó que el inicio de la pandemia generó la posibilidad del cierre de la emisora para la cual labora. Pero encontró en ella una fuerte oposición a tal medida porque en esta situación “la gente nos necesita más que nunca y yo los necesito a ellos”. Tres meses después el rating de la emisora se había triplicado.

La locutora de origen puertorriqueño recibió además el Lifestyle Achievement Award en reconocimiento a sus tres décadas de trabajo y de servicio a la comunidad latina.

Un honor

Lina Gómez, vicepresidente de Operaciones de Hispanic Media, estuvo a cargo de los comentarios de cierre de la ceremonia. Agradeció la asistencia de los invitados y reafirmó la presencia de Hispanic Media en el mercado durante sus 27 años de exitosa trayectoria.

Gómez subrayó la proyección social del medio. “Ha sido un honor para nosotros apoyar a nuestra comunidad durante esta pandemia, educando, promoviendo y comunicando en un trabajo puerta por puerta”.

Entre los asistentes estuvieron el representante estatal Danilo Burgos y el concejal David Oh, quien se encargó de entregar reconocimientos adicionales otorgados por el Concejo de Filadelfia a las personalidades honradas en el evento.

La gala que exaltó a la importante herencia hispana culminó con una invitación a los asistentes a disfrutar de una exquisita cena que sirvió de broche de oro para una velada que sembró esperanza y optimismo en la comunidad latina de Filadelfia.
