However, he said that state Senate President Steve Sweeney should not concede because, “We should have the respect to let that play out.”

According to NBCNY, the Democratic governor, whose narrow lead has grown to nearly 3%, vowed not to change, though he acknowledged more work needs to be acheived to reach moderate and GOP voters.

“No shot in our race”

When pressed if that was a double standard, Murphy admitted, “I actually don’t know the math on Steve’s race, and I had the impression that there was a shot. There is no shot in our race. I think that’s the difference.”

Ciattarelli campaign officials said they should know “in the next 48 hours” whether they will seek a recount, which could cost “around $1 million, if not more.”

Campaign legal counsel Mark Sheridan explained the margin would likely have about 1% between the candidates, and he admitted that the odds are against Ciattarelli. However, if Murphy’s lead narrows to 1%, it might “make sense” to go to the recount.

“The odds of them all going in favor of Jack and changing the outcome of this election based on the current timeline is unlikely, but that doesn’t mean, it doesn’t bring it close enough to warrant a recount,” he said.

“I’m not looking to be Rudy Giuliani standing in front of a mulch pile. My goal is to make sure we get an accurate count and we make a reasonable decision based on the law and the facts to decide whether or not we are going to recount this,” added Sheridan.

Provisional ballots, which are used at the polling place on election, must also be counted, though Murphy’s campaign said mail in ballots are trending in his favor.

“Ciattarelli is mathematically eliminated, and he must accept the results and concede the race,” a campaign statement read. “His continuing failure to do so is an assault on the integrity of our elections.”

On one side of Arch Street, activists have been blasting music and demanding that election officials count every vote. On the other side, Trump´s supporters ask to stop the votes counting.

County officials began processing mail ballots Tuesday morning and the count has taken days, as it was expected.

One division of the dueling demonstrations has Donald Trump calling for the count to stop. Sever They were joined by members of the Trump campaign, including Trump senior campaign advisor Corey Lewandowski and former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi. Trump allies were in the city to file a flurry of legal challenges against city and state voting officials.

Although there have been tense yelling moments between the dueling demonstrations, no violent behavior has been reported, NBC10 reporters said.

Tense dueling demonstrations

Across the street, outside the famed Reading Terminal Market, scores of “Count the Vote” protesters loudly sang, danced and celebrated democracy. These supporters outnumbered the other side. Organizers sent text messages to registered voters in Philadelphia inviting people to join “a joyful party.”

Among the dueling demonstrations, city and state representatives were among those gathered outside the convention center, assuring voters of the integrity of the ballot-counting process.

Philadelphia City Councilmember Helen Gym, a Democrat, spoke to a crowd of hundreds at North 12th and Arch streets, assuring them, “Philly has got this.”

Meanwhile, State Sen.-elect Nikil Saval said the ballot-counting process was “just professional, accountable work” by “really extraordinary dedicated servants.”

Signatures are being collected despite the Republican Party efforts to block the counting of provisional ballots.

A Newsweek report holds that most of the votes now swinging the race one way or the other are absentee mail-in ballots. In some states, they are being counted after the in-person voting from Election Day. Pennsylvania is particularly close, and its 20 Electoral College votes could represent the key to the White House.

The absentee ballots have been breaking favorably for Democratic candidate Joe Biden, handing him wins in Wisconsin and Michigan. They have been putting him within touching distance of President Donald Trump’s lead in Pennsylvania and Georgia.

“The voters we reached were voters who never received their mail in ballot and weren’t sure quite where to go to have their vote counted. Voters who didn’t even know they were on a mail in ballot list, and were told to vote provisional ballots at their polls,” Eva Resnick-Day wrote about the petition to count them.

Resnick-Day is an organizer with Greenpeace USA’s democracy campaign, working to get fossil fuel money out of politics and restore the right to vote.

Her petition to count provisional ballots is considering voters with disabilities. “Voters with disabilities, immunocompromised, elderly or sick that either didn’t receive their mail in ballot or whose ballot wasn’t received by mail, and needed coordinated assistance to have their ballots counted,” she added. “Despite these hurdles, we’re seeing record turnout. Every single one of these votes must count.”

Those using provisional ballots are more likely those disenfranchised by strict voting laws, including minorities and those who cannot immediately prove their identity or a place of residence.

On the other hand, Republicans in Pennsylvania are suing to prevent those voters whose mail-in ballots were rejected from submitting provisional ballots. They claim that notifying these voters to tell them their mail-in ballots were rejected is prohibited under state election laws that prevent officials from revealing early results.

Republican´s objection

The petition to count provisional votes reads that “Republicans are currently working persistently through the courts to invalidate tens of thousands of votes of hardworking Pennsylvania voters who simply missed their ‘secrecy envelope’ or a signature and showed up in person to correct it. All of these voters deserve to have their voice and vote heard.”

The Trump campaign has taken legal action to try and stop vote counting in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Georgia, and is demanding a recount in Wisconsin which has been called for Biden.

Mujeres de Filadelfia manifiestan su  rechazo a las políticas de Trump

Vestidas como personajes de la serie de televisión “The Handmaid’s Tale” (Los cuentos de la criada, en español), con capas rojas cubriendo casi la totalidad de sus cuerpos y gorras en sus cabezas, un grupo de mujeres hicieron una llamativa protesta frente a un hotel en Philadelphia donde el vicepresidente Mike Pence estuvo el martes participando en una actividad para recaudar fondos para la campaña republicana y apoyar a un candidato conservador al Senado estatal que se presenta a las elecciones de mitad de año.

Las principales organizadoras de la protesta dijeron en una declaración en su sitio web que planeaban saludar al vicepresidente con “una representación visual de las mujeres totalmente despojadas de sus derechos y de su humanidad”.

El grupo organizador llamado Refuse Fascism Philly citó la política de inmigración como una de las razones la protesta, dado que la administración Trump aún no ha cumplido con una orden de reunificación de familias separadas en la frontera, emitida por el juez de Distrito de San Diego, Dana Sabraw, y le quedan seis días para cumplirla.

Pence, exgobernador de Indiana y vehemente opositor al aborto, ha presionado al Congreso para que corten el financiamiento a Planned Parenthood, que proporciona anticonceptivos, exámenes de salud y abortos.

El vicepresidente en su visita a Filadelfia promovió los recortes de impuestos y la candidatura a la reelección de Lou Barletta, quien ha expresado su defensa al ICE y sus esfuerzos para prevenir la afluencia de crimen, drogas ilegales y tráfico de personas.

La protesta expresó además su preocupación por la mayoría conservadora que se crearía en la Corte Suprema de Estados Unidos si el juez Brett Kavanaugh, nominado por Trump, ocupa el escaño que deja el magistrado Anthony Kennedy, refirió un medio local.

En un comunicado de prensa, Refuse Fascism Philly declaró que “si es confirmado, (Kavanaugh) destripará los derechos de voto y la separación de poderes, y despojará a las mujeres y a las niñas del derecho al aborto y al control de la natalidad”.
